Dedicated to the protection of birds, other animals, and their habitats through education and activism

It’s that time of year again when I ask for help from the members of the club. People who have been in office for many years, would like a respite. I know the Treasurer and Secretary would like to be replaced. And believe me, for the last couple of years since the the filling of critical positions such as VP, Publicity Chair, Program Chair, etc, we have met under John’s leadership, to try to cultivate new, active members for the club, who might become board members in the future. It has not been as productive as we would have hoped, but we are still actively working on it.
In the meantime, there are still jobs that need to be done that do not
necessarily devolve from a position on the board. For example:
Coordinate Tomoka Science Fair
Coordinate Christmas Bird Counts and shorebird counts
Coordinate Lagoonacy and Turtle Day
Member of the Florida Shorebird Alliance involving Colonial
nesting surveys {pelicans), rooftop surveys (Least Terns) and four to
five meetings per year
Membership chair, input new member checks.
Outreach programs: Birds of the Beach and Birds of Indian River Lagoon
presentations at local libraries and Daytona Beach Breakers Park; Know
Your Island beach bird walks from Myrtle Avenue Park under auspices of
city of NSB. Even though I love doing these, it would be a relief to
have a backup for some of them.
Though these don’t sound like a lot, when added to the normal
requirements like newsletter editor (eSkimmer News), blog, website,
reports to National Audubon, Prez Sez and meeting preps, I work an
average of 40 hours per month throughout the year for the club.
I would really appreciate a little help. Please choose one or two
of these tasks to take on. Please become an active member.
Thanks.
