Our October meeting will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday, December 12 at
the Marine Discovery Center in New Smyrna Beach. Our
speaker will be Dr. Marc Compere, Assistant Professor of Mechanical
Engineering at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona
Beach. Dr. Compere earned a PhD in Mechanical Engineering at
University of Texas at Austin. His background is in physical
systems modeling, hardware-in-the-loop control systems, mechatronics,
and hybrid-electric vehicle dynamics. His current work is focused on
solar powered air conditioning, reducing diesel emissions, and water
purification for disaster relief, all subjects near and dear to the
hearts of birders and, indeed, all environmentally conscious citizens.
Dr. Compere’s presentation will cover the four-year history of Project Haiti, how the movement is student-led and how it has grown significantly each of the four years. He will present the 2013 water purifier design and the solar power system design, along with their micro-business kickoff. He will also present the plans for 2014 with the new group of students and a new purifier customer. He has titled his talk “Embry-Riddle's Project Haiti: A Movement of Students for Delivering Solar Powered Water Purification Systems in Post-Earthquake Haiti.” Dr. Compere may be accompanied by some of his students from Project Haiti.
Refreshments will be served.
